On Tuesday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. ET, the National Assessment Governing Board and the National Center for Education Statistics will release results of The Nation's Report Card: 2016 Arts at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. This report features national results at grade eight from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

EVENT PROGRAM

At the event, we'll discuss:

  • What the data show at the national level about student achievement, including findings by demographic subgroups and trends since the last NAEP arts report card was released in 2008

  • How the availability of resources and opportunities in arts education — such as full-time teachers in the arts, experience playing instruments, engagement in artistic expression in class and outside of class, and exposure to museums and musical performancesmay shape students' skills

The event will also feature behind-the-scenes video tours of schools in Boston; Red Lake, Minn.; Tacoma, Wash.; and Winston-Salem, N.C. where arts programs blend with academics to enrich students’ educational experiences. We'll also share special video messages from actress Gabrielle Ruiz (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “In the Heights”) and former NASA leaders Charles Bolden and Dava Newman.

Speakers include:

  • Peggy Carr, Acting Commissioner, National Center for Education Statistics

  • Jonathan Katz, Strategic Advisor, The Innovation Collaborative

  • Terry Mazany, President and CEO, The Chicago Community Trust; Chair, National Assessment Governing Board
